2019 Routes!!This year Border to Border is changing up how we walk. We have three routes, a north, central, and southern route. Combined they will span over 600 kilometers; that's the length of Armenia, from Sarchapet to Meghri, border to border. This walk will take us next to Armenia's national parks, nature reserves, Lake Sevan, across mountains, and over streams.
The northern route will start in the north of Shirak Region along the Akhuryian River. Heading east towards Trchkan Waterfall, it will cut traverse the Shirak steppe, only to drop back down into the Debed Canyon in Lori Region. From the well-known Debed Canyon, walkers will head into the mountains again, until coming out near Ijevan. This route is guaranteed to a gorgeous cross section of Armenia’s diverse geography, traveling through Shirak, Lori, and Tavush regions. The central route will start along the shores of beautiful Lake Sevan, in the village of Vardenik, Armenia's largest village. This route will take walkers over the Geghama mountains, next to Khosrov Forest Reserve, and into some of Armenia's most populated cities. By the end of this route, our walkers will have had time to fully take in the beauty of Mt Ararat and traveled through 5 unique regions; Gegharkunik, Amavir, Ararat, Aragotsotn, and Kotayk. The southern route is arguably the most remote section of Border to Border's trek in June. It starts in Kapan, and goes north into a number of villages tucked away in mountains that earn the region its nickname "Scenic Syunik". This route is also going to be exploring some of the most recent hiking trail development in the country! Ending near Yeghegnadzor, this route meanders over mountain ridges, entering only two regions, Syunik and Vayots Dzor, but covering the most kilometers. |
